Ok so spraying your cat with water?

Totally against this, but he's starting to be extremely rough, and leaving scratches and scars! When am I suppose to spray him? When he's showing anytime of aggression towards me? Should I hiss first and if he continues spray him? I just don't want to confuse him? He's still a kitten by the way.
